Getting help for alcoholism or drug abuse

If you're ready to admit you have a drinking problem or drug problem, you've already taken the first step. It takes tremendous strength and courage to face alcohol abuse and drug abuse head on. Reaching out for support is the second step. You don't have to face your problem alone.

Whether you choose to go to rehab, rely on self-help programs, get therapy, or take a self-directed treatment approach; Support Is Essential. Recovering from addiction is much easier when you have people you can lean on for encouragement, comfort, and guidance. Without support, it's easy to fall back into old patterns when things get tough.

Can you recommend an inpatient / outpatient drug & alcohol treatment center?
There are many qualified Houston professionals who are willing and capable of assisting you and your loved one with Interventioin Services, counseling, and treatment. As a courtesy we have provided a list of professionals below and recommend that you contact them for more information.

Common Third Party Services

Intervention
An intervention is a facilitated meeting with the addict or alcoholic, friends, family members and other concerned parties. During the intervention process, the substance abuser is lovingly confronted by people who care about them. The intervention will be a frank discussion directed to the addicted person about their using behavior and the consequences of their addiction, focusing on friends' and family members' feelings and experiences. They should use a proven intervention process that may include one or more preparatory meetings, including family "coaching sessions".

Detoxification
Many people who use or abuse substances are not aware that they will need to detoxify before they enter treatment. Some people do know about detoxification, and have either experienced it before, tried it on their own, or are afraid of feeling bad due to withdrawals symptoms. These are roadblocks in someone's recovery and can be eliminated with the appropriate education and care.

Residential Inpatient
Most residential inpatient programs takes place in comfortable community settings, are usually a 30-day program, which assists each individual to make positive changes in their life, increasing their abilities to live drug and alcohol free. Participants will connect with other recovering people who are part of the community. It is receommended to find a multidisciplinary treatment team who uses a structured program, based on 12-Step recovery principles, proven medical and evidence based models.

Intensive Outpatient
An outpatient program may be one option for people who are ready to return to work, school or other responsibilities or simply do not require a higher level of care. Many programs will spend up to 10 hours each week (3 days a week+-) in a structured, supportive setting led by licensed professionals. Programs are usually intensive and use a 12-Step and proven clinical treatment methods to help make positive changes.
